This is a African chief's figural/spider throne stool from Cameroon (I know that because you guys told me about it a while back when I first got it!)
On the inside it has mold(?) all over it + the figures have little spots that I think is from the mold.
What is the best way to remove it without hurting the wood?
    Thanks all - Happy Easter!

I've had those white spots on lots of old surfaces such as wood and bakelite anything from earlier than about the mid sixties. Could never make my mind up whether it was mould from human contact or some chemical reaction from polishing/cleaning products over the years. Would recommend a nylon fingernail brush and a lot of soapy water to get rid of them. It looks like it could do with a wash anyway.:D

This piece is really awesome and it would be a shame to lose it to mold. I can see that there are a lot of spots on it and you should not risk this. I had a beautiful piece of old furniture with mold. I used some chemicals to get rid of the mold and it worked, but it also damaged the wood. Don't make the same mistake that I did because it would be a shame to ruin something this beautiful. There are people who are professionals in dealing with problems like this, give them a call.
