What is this ceramic little duck full of holes used for? It’s vintage for sure

approx 6” tall. Only thing I could think of was hat pins or the like. It’s not helping me come up with anything. No marks whatsoever on the bottom Thank you for any help

 

If there was a plug in the bottom, maybe potpourri. If the holes are big enough for toothpicks, a canape server.

Potpourri? Hmm. I didn’t know that stuff had been around for a a while. Now, toothpicks kinda makes sense. I didn’t know they would have things shaped like this for that. That’s cool and interesting. Do you think the age is possibly 50s-70’s? Thank you for helping

I've never seen one of these in use. My ID is based on info from the eBay boards back when I got the pig.

 

Wish I hadn't seen it so often, somewhere in my Mom's stuff is a wooden pig that made every move with us since the mid '60s, always bugged me that it had that long straight tail - definitely no question that it's not a keeper for me...

My guess is pie vent. Used to let steam out of cooking pies

Yeah, at 6 inches and with no bottom hole, you're right. I guess I'm just REALLY wanting some apple pie right now

 

It would definitely take a big bite out of the middle of the pie.

However, a big piece of Dutch apple pie a la mode of course does sound wonderful!!

 

Has anyone ever tried their apple pie with a slice of cheddar on it? i love cheese but i am not sure about adding it to that

 

My father always ate his apple pie with a slice of cheddar cheese........but my mother never inserted cheese into the pie itself.

As an adult, I too love apple pie with cheese.............

 

I’m gonna try it. I love both and I do love savory with sweet. Yummy
