When dragons are that small it is just plain cruel. Come on George, pick on dragons your own size, you coward!

Sean, I could be wrong, but it looks like a print on board. Could we see the back please?
Probably Russian, with old Slavic script. @April07 , @Figtree3 ?

Figtree3 What would you do if you weren't afraid?

I'm not very good at deciphering that type of script. Let's wait for others. If nobody shows up I can probably puzzle it out.

Thanks for the reply....unfortunately I did not take a picture; however its 3 individual boards, then connected by 2 wood wedges fixed horizontal. You can see one of the wedges in the enclosed picture.

It just says in Church Slavonic (not old Russian): icon of the Great Saint George.
The repair is a replacement of one of the shponkas, to keep the structure stable. Otherwise the wood bends with change of humidity. They began use of such shponkas after 18th cent, but it's in use until nowadays.

It looks 19th century in style, with this decorated frame that imitates kovcheg (the arc) - a change in level that is used to divide the painterly plan in two, but the way it is painted makes me doubt, it feels almost like it's painted in oils. Though it was also not uncommon in that time.
