    Hello, everyone!

I have two antique lamps that I would like to sell, but I have no idea what they are worth. Neither lamps have their original lamp shade.

The first lamp is a globe style with roses on it, and there's three different switch settings. The globe lights up, the top lamp lights up, or both can be on at the same time.

The second lamp has a small Samurai helmet.

    Any help is greatly appreciated!

Neither are antique. Would think the first from the 40s-60s. The second is probably an 80s , give or take, decorator lamp. I suppose there is the possibility that it is made from a real helmet but I doubt it. Others here that know more about Asian arts can probably tell.

The helmet is a replica and very tiny so it's definitely not real! lol Guess I should have found a "vintage" forum rather than an antique forum. Thank you for your help!

Both lamps appear to be put together from parts.
The base on this lamp does not fit the style of the globe, which I suspect was originally the top of another lamp to begin with.

This one should not have an oval base with the round helmet

Vintage what? That is not the proper way to describe antiques or collectibles. Vintage means year - as in vintage 1980 or vintage 1960.

We're here to help if you want it. But don't snap at us if you don't like the answer.

Brad is correct neither is antique. Neither were manufactured. Both were put together from parts that don't quite match.

I took D2rgirl's reply to be a humorous acknowledgement of the accuracy of verybrad's statement that the lamps are not antique & did not feel it was the least bit snappish. Guess tone is in the head of the reader.

Welcome to the forum D2r. I like the llama.:)
Nice lamps. Don't worry about posting vintage items, some people even post brand new items. We generally know more about antiques, but since many of us are of a (good) vintage long past, we often recognize vintage items.
I got it too, and thought the post was nice and humourous.
Good idea, you can see how Phaik does it, she is one of our resident emoji experts.:peeking::)
Vintage in the strict sense just means wine year, vin is wine. In the broader sense it means old, but more recent than antique.
When selling something, it is generally considered good form to include the period or (an estimate of) the year. When speaking in general, just vintage is used, as D2rgirl did correctly. A vintage forum would not just deal with items from 1936, for instance.

Maybe it could also mean a forum with members of 'a certain age', which I'm sure some of us can relate to.:pompous::hilarious::hilarious:

lamps have always been a favorite. . endless design possibilities, and they serve a function. Some are remarkable and expensive - others just catch your eye and can be had for next to nothing. The U.S. had dozens, if not hundreds of lamp makers until the 1980's. I enjoy researching their history - even the $5. outcasts. As I told the seller of my last lamp purchase.... I'm a creature of the night, but my hobby is light !

Because of my passion for cameos, I also end up seeing things that resemble the base of your first lamp because they are regarded as 'cameo glass'. Don't suppose there's a signature on it anywhere? Does not look like the work of this maker, but if you search for 'Galle' (there should be an accent on the e) you will see many similar globes.

One of those makers, Louis Zoellner, is better known for his cameos, but he was also a lamp designer in Brooklyn. This is surely one of the most unusual entries in Lighting Journal:

For more about Zoellner and the technique of hardstone cameo cutting:

I keep wishing veils would make a comeback. (Can't get rid of this underline, even though turned it off!)

Think I could come out ahead by comparison with Medusa (although those snakes have a lot of allure), but with Venus...?!
