Paint colors for 18th century pine?

I have late baroque European pine side table circa 1800, with a rococo silhouette. It's a rustic country type table (some would call it primitive) and currently painted black. Prior to refinishing it had coats of warm brown, creamy white and light grey paint on it.
I was wondering what paint colors would be ones they used for rococo or late baroque furniture in the late 18th century? I know black and green were used, but I'd like to paint the table grey: a mid-tone grey chalk paint, not too dark, not too light. Do you you think that would be a good idea?

You're going to have to post photographs. "Baroque" and "rustic country" are a bit contradictory.

The table is very similar to this one from Bukowskis, but without the "feet".

    1. i'm noticing a rise in bold colors in the household.
    2. this is a simple piece , but with very nice lines, so the color would add to, but not overtake it's surroundings...

I have a fondness for the color gray. That said, I'd go lighter here. The medium gray is too utilitarian for the style of the table. It might then look as if it should be in the garage with wood shavings and a hammer on top...

I also like this look. Wood top and painted base.
    But we're all different.

Is the table made in Sweden? If so that could be what they call it. It says 1750 or mid 18th century, which was during QA period in america, no clue about sweden though.
Attractive table, it would be called a "country piece" in USA meaning not built in a major city by a noted cabinetmaker.

When you look at the side apron/skirt in this pic, it has QA written all over it, I like it & would probably leave existing paint decoration as is unless using in kitchen for food prep. Would paint that new knee return on leg though & it looks like missing a drawer pull, an easy fix.

Me too and, it appears that is the case with this table, looks like unpainted wood or "scrubbed" pine top.

Black was very popular in this era, i have a a 1750 american william & mary table built out of solid cherry & originally it was painted black! I know it sounds weird today to paint solid hardwoods like cherry or walnut but, back then it was popular.
