Hi folks, am trying to determine if this is worth saving. A neighbour called it Irish Famine Furniture...all the bits are there, but she needs fixing up. I'd use it outside if it's not something rare and wonderful, but obviously if it was it'd need proper care...Thanks! bench resized.jpg arm resized.jpg underneath resized.jpg side resized.jpg

Did the neighbor explain the terminology?

Pine bench. I'm not familiar with Irish Famine Furniture, but I'd say that in any case this piece was produced after the Potato Famine. I'd slap another coat of paint on it and use it outside.

from the form a typical park bench standing along an alley path.
    sadly not looked after.
the "Irish famine " term is used for all old useless stuff that could be sold to US tourists on their search for "the Byrne/Re(a)gan/Gallagher family" that lived exactly a few miles along the path on the roodsyde where you see the fern and lough behind Paddy's farm".

Apparently when folks had no money to buy timber to make furniture they cut up their old doors and reused them...

Turn left at the sheep! :D That would explain why that terminology netted me zero hits on google...Thank you!

It's very comfy...would be nice if it was worth something but also be nice if it wasn't and I can keep it outside guiltfree :)

Thank you, I was half hoping that would be the answer. Just didn't want to ruin something that would be a treasure for somebody else...

Thank you all for your answers! I'll fix it up this winter and 'slap a bit of paint on it' :) I suppose even done up it won't be worth a whole ton, so me, the dog and the cat will enjoy it ourselves outside, in the sun, between the showers ;)
Go raibh míle maith agat! (Thank you very much!)
