Amen. I feel OK in my grocery store, but not in a larger one locally. Outdoors is safer. It's one reason if I go to an estate sale I want to be one of the first in the door. (beyond the first guy being the only one getting anything worth getting, that is)

ANYBODY HAVE ANY UPDATES THAT THEY WOULD LIKE TO SHARE ON HOW THIS PANDEMIC HAS IMPACTED THE ANTIQUES AND COLLECTABLES BUSINESS?

I was talking to an auctioneer and he said he expects Gov. DeWine to curtail estate auctions in the next week or so. He says that he has enough consignments and estates for 7 more moderately sized auctions. However he doesn't think he will be able to get them in soon and doesn't want to invest in advertising for these sales or the time of his employees prepping them for sale when a shutdown is coming. So he is pre-emptively shutting down his operations.

I expect antique malls to be able to remain open this time around provided precautions such as masks and social distancing are enforced by the establishments who have greater responsibility/penalties under the new orders to police their operations for violators.

I expect there to be trouble at a few of our flea markets which are barely contained bastions of lawlessness even in the best of times and currently have about 30% mask usage in their establishments.

We had someone here a couple years ago who was going for an auctioneer's license. I don't remember who. Does anyone know what happened with that?

((rolleyes)) I remember that one. Adrian she wasn't. I haven't been hearing much, but this is a notoriously slow season for estate sales anyway. They seem to be carrying on as usual, but the only ones open last week and this weekend are run by companies I avoid. No idea what they're up to.

Here the estate sales are abundant. A few of the regular runners don't want to do it now due to covid, but they are the exception more than the rule. What I don't like is that many incorporated auctions into their sales so a person can bid and then if they win they have to pick up the item. I won't buy that way, they offer no real description.

Some of the sales keep getting pushed forward again and again for many reasons.

There was one today I did not go to, too far away, one tomorrow but I have a dr appt and then we will see how the rest of the week goes.

I am hoping the wonderful church thrift shops stay open.

As Peggy said, I should be shot for buying more stuff at this point.

All non essential businesses are shut down again per governor's orders through 11/30. That includes my antique mall.
So no customers, but I will still have to pay rent on my booth even with no sales

They should at least be cutting you a break on rent, since you're not getting what you paid for - access to customers.

Estate sales companies are still working and a few are scheduled for December and January.

The local flea market that can run all year long has shut down for the winter.

On Cape Cod in Mass. we are doing well so far. West of us near Boston where the population is much denser there are more problems :(

    That is the one.

Thinking back there was a guy earlier on our forum, he was also on the old eBay antiques forum.
I recall he bought a big van or truck to go buying, was it him that wanted his own auctionhouse ?

Were those the ones on the Antiques board on FeeBay? Wasn't the Bali guy involved with shady dealings too?
