hi, i acquired this about a week ago. i looked on the back of the picture and there is a label that reads "fh bresler co fine arts" i did google that and it come up with info about the company being an art gallery in wisconsin! i tried doing some research on my own of this particular picture but i have not come across another one like it. There is a biography about the artist "francisco de goya". I did look closely at the picture but i did not see any dots to indicate that this would be a print. could this be an old litho? i did go on google and i tried to find a lithograph of this but cant find one either. i only came across modern day prints. The title of it is called "boy on a ram". The picture itself is in really nice shape. The little black dots are on the glass not on the actual picture. Was wondering if anyone could give me any info on what i might have? Thanks! bull1.jpg bull2.jpg bull3.jpg bull4.jpg bull5.jpg bull6.jpg

Hi thanks for the feedback but I would have to say this looks to be much older than 1950s. How come this particular picture one is hard to find? If this is just home decor wouldn't there be more of these pictured online?

It could be 1940s too, but it's definitely not an antique; the framing is all wrong and the colors faded the wrong way. Things printed in the 1920s look different.

There are thousands and thousands and thousands of pieces of Home Decor from the 40s 50s 60s 70s... that are not pictured online.

I'd think that the fading would be considered very significant damage by most potential buyers or collectors, regardless of the age. It looks to me like it has been exposed to a lot of sunlight, resulting in near total loss of the reds.
Here's what it ought to look like:

As to date: I note that the article on the back mentions that the painting was owned by Chauncey McCormick who "was chairman of the exhibit."
McCormick was associated with the Art Institute of Chicago from 1925-1954, but in 1927 became Chairman of the art committee for the Chicago World's Fair of 1933; their well-known art exhibit included "Whistler's Mother" and very likely that is the exhibit referred to in the article. That exhibit was quite important in popularizing many works of fine art.
With that in mind I'd think that the reproductions of this painting would have been done sometime after 1933. McCormick was also involved with other exhibits between 1940 and his death in 1954, of course.
(I'm assuming the article and the print come from the same source, though of course the article could have been reprinted and attached to a later print - but not to an earlier one.)
