    Hi mill Cove,
Keep looking I found an 1930 50 dollar bill in one and an old movie poster which sold for 225 bucks. The best was the guy in PA that found an original Decoration of Independence in the back of a picture. I think it sold for over 2 million. I have found some smutty photos in one old frame.:rolleyes::rolleyes:

Davey you have the Midas touch it seems.:D

It always amazes me when I go to estate sales and I see the medicine cabinets stocked with prescription drugs. That and when the house keys are hanging in full view for anyone with sticky fingers.

Then you get the sales where the family took everything they wanted, i.e. anything good, and overpriced the rest. I went to one on Friday morning in a very expensive house, because in that price range people often leave good stuff behind. Spent $15 total. Note to self...next time check the curtains....

Another place to check is any button box or pin cushion. I once found a pile of 18k charms dangling from an old pin cushion, and a carved rose quartz and 14k stick pin in another one. A jar of beads from a dealer who should have known better had some 10 K ones rattling around in the bottom. The jar was $5 and the beads netted $20. (Dunno about you, but I'll take that action any old time!)

Yeah, in a nut shell the above says it all. I already have two gold chains both 14k but they costs the bucks too so I was thinking of getting another to wear a jade piece with. I'll just wear one of my 14k's and save some cheddar. I don't even know if ppl call it cheddar, anymore. Remember moola? Now that's a true old school word. laughhard.gif

some chain styles are better suited to handle heavy pendants....
my old box chain ate thru a bale so bad that one day I found my pendant in my shirt...at my belt line.....if it wasn't tickling my tummy...I would have lost it.

Got to say I'm with Davey on this.

9 ct is no problem in the UK. But if I list it here, I'm not allowed to call it gold, because it is not a legal fineness.
Dutch buyers always say: "such a beautiful gemstone, pity they didn't mount it in real gold". So I only buy some to sell internationally, or pieces of real historic or collector's interest.
I also buy to invest in my old age, which means I have to buy legally recognized gold jewellery to be able to get any proper money for it. I will have to get an auctioneer to come and take care of everything, because I expect I won't be able to ship anything abroad when my health deteriorates more. Shipping is difficult enough right now. No Dutch auctioneer is interested in 9 or 10ct, they can't list it as gold.

I think American FeeBay now allows us to list 9k as gold, because there are enough British pieces out there that I guess they finally had to cave in. I don't think it can be sold at a regular auction as gold however, since the minimum standard is 10K here. If just buying something for a pendant, I'm known to use leather cording or rattail. It looks great and costs a lot less, and the pendant can't kill it...or if it does, who cares?

Not sure why the UK uses so much 9k. Cheap I guess. I prefer 18k and have had no problem with it if it is a heavier style.

I am looking at 9 ct gold vintage/antique lockets to match my new chain. I think the engraving on them is stunning. So I polish them with a silver or sunshine cloth, do that with my 14k now. I have a 9k gold ring sold to me as 18k (I still have jewelers disagreeing about what the karat pureness is) that has elaborate carving with a beautiful cabachon sapphire that people always commented on. I guess the harder metal holds up better to the engraving/carving.
