    Hello

I bought this pair of moon flasks/vases but I can't find anything similar online.

The decoration is textured and looks like it's been 'applied' rather than painted on, though it is hand painted.

I thought so too when I found them online, but once they arrived I can see they're definitely glass.

They are very smooth but are not glazed. The glass is quite thick, I guess they were made out of panels of glass and pressed together. You can see along the edges and inside the rim has been chamfered.

Ratsy, Glass is never glazed. What you call a chamfer inside the mouth is a mold feature, from the porcelain mold. Glass is not made in two halves then fused together. It's blown in one piece. These are not glass. Sorry.

They're very well done. I wouldn't turn my nose up at them.

Agree, porcelain. Look at the base. I suspect English, 1870/80 or so. Might be someone like Brownfield.

I understand it's hard to tell from the photos but these ARE glass. I handle enough porcelain to know the difference. And I know that glass is never glazed-thats why I specifically mentioned that these are not.

I have found some similarly decorated vases online described as opaline glass painted with enamels. The flowers look very similar in design, but I can't find anything with sheep, or this solid green/gold background.

Regardless of the porcelain/glass debate if anyone can find anything similarly decorated or with the same border design I would really appreciate it.

Here are some links to vases with the same enamelled flowers.

Looks like glass to me and the decoration looks to be of really high quality.
