Heres whats got me hesitant...that overall staining on the bottom really makes me think newer Chinese.

Yes I definitely understand. It’s hard to find multiple examples from different angles of this type of pottery, for me to come up with a definitive answer on my own. I definitely appreciate your input.

    I also think it's recent.
At Goodwills in my area you'll hardly find any pottery, glass or whatever priced more than $20.
Here's my copper red bowl that I bought today. Probably recent too.

It looks like the mark might continue under the felt pad. Have you removed it to see if there is anything there?

I don't know much about Chinese pottery, but they both look newer to me.

It's not easy to date monochrome glazes. A 300 years old copper red piece will look almost as new. Other details can give better clue, like shape, foot rims, bases, paste, glaze pooling, etc.

Regarding the OP's piece, I agree with SIS. Carefully remove the pad which seems to be covering the signature, and find someone who can read it.

(Kard, may be better to start a separate thread on yours, so the responses don't get confused.)

I would recommend continued research the OP's piece, starting with a translation of the signature. Seems like most newer inexpensive Chinese pieces flooding the market aren't personally signed like this one, so who knows, could be a good sign. First things first, get a translation. Best of luck. It's a gorgeous piece.

Sorry for the late response, I appreciate all of the helpful advice everyone has given. I’ll take a closer look under the pad tomorrow to see if can make out the marking. I’ll have some updated pictures of my findings.
