No. Much more recent than that - mid-century-ish? 50's?

So far as the pictures of the encapsulated medallion are concerned, I find the nickel to be of greater interest.

Last year (and I think I'll repeat this year) I purchased antique Christmas postcards to distribute as gifts. I think they have a lot of charm, even though they don't sing at you or blink lights. And you can get nice ones for cheap.

For the postcards, I actually prefer used, with stamps and a legible cancellation mark.

One I regret not buying had a message on the back to the effect of: Merry Christmas! Happy New Year! Best of the season to you and yours! Uncle Elmer died.

And I think at a foot square, they are too big to be "hankies."

King, I have similar that my Grandma gave me (brand new) in the very early 1960's. (I was such a prissy little girl - I ALWAYS had a folded hanky in my purse!)

Oooo... I missed the size. Hmmm. Maybe these were little table covers - like for the middle of a card-type table, over a plain tablecloth? Or maybe even napkins?

Not really sure, and the way they were folded may be a red herring, but I would have thought napkins.

Maybe someone can pinpoint more accurately :)

That's a normal size for those mid 20th century printed hankies...

My Dad always had plain white ones. I recall them as about 1' square. Maybe men's are larger???
I have some that I got him with our initial but he never used them as they are still in their box.

They are sheer and very light.

All the hankies I remember from that time - mine, Mom's and Grammy's - were much smaller, but I bow to Cheryl's opinion.

BTW - they are *Both* Christmas themed, the flowered one being poinsettias. ;)

P.S. I was brought up, and lived with, my Dad and his Mom.
She suddenly passed at only 57. :(
I was now the laundryman at 11.
I SO hated washing hankies!!! :vomit:

Yes they are and I used to go to the Ecke Ranch in California each Christmas season for years.
It was either in Encinitas or in Carlsbad depending upon which city he was most mad at at the time for his ranch was in both cities!
It is said that Paul Ecke himself was the man who brought the idea of Poinsettias as the Christmas flower. :)

Have to have at least a couple of hundred old hankies, can't seem to resist them, just bought a bag of 18 for $3., so they're not packed away with others - the smallest is 10.5" square, the largest 13". Still typical sizes for ladies hankies, they're even reproducing the vintage florals (maybe for folks who don't like used)...

Me too; the pictures are the best part. That cocoon coat is a Chanel or knockoff of same. The original would be worth a pile.
