help understand this kind of art

Hi any idea what kind of art is this thank you

 

1970s contemporary. I don't think it has a particular genre. It's very dated. Looks like Guinivere admiring the castle of Camelot.

I think the castle is in the mirror.

 

Fantasy art? Not American based on the way it's dated.

 

Yes, the castle is in the mirror, but if you look at her reflection, it seems to be behind her also as a reflection. Also, SIS is correct - the dating is European with day first then month and year.

That whole King Arthur thing was popular again in the 70s.

 

The blanket (or whatever she's holding) is worked with a more humble landscape, so maybe it's a where-she's-from/where-she's-going sort of thing. The picture has the quality of an illustration.

 

I'm thinking it's a tapestry she's holding.

 

MOS & SIS- I kind of thought that is was a dream of where she wanted to be and that she was embroidering something. It still doesn't give me a feeling of great value.

It's the Lady of Shalott ... weaving. Gazing at Camelot through the mirror

 

There she weaves by night and day
A magic web with colours gay.

A curse is on her if she stay
To look down to Camelot.
