    Hi Everyone,

Hope there is one among you who has more knowledge of cartoon characters than I do. This cat looks very familiar but I don't know why. He reminds me a child's roly poly, but his bottom is flat and he won't roll. I know this was hand made by a hobbiest, but I would love to know who this cat holding a dead mouse is. The stripes and jacket should be a give away. My only thoughts were Puss in Boots or Kilban. I know Kilban had a flat nose like that but thought he wore boots only.

Any help with his name would be much appreciated. Have more photos if you think they might help.

    TIA

He doesn't look look like a Kliban cat to me (they wear boots? Isn't that Puss?) but the blue coat is very like Beatrix Potter's characters.

Hate to question the OP's ID of material, but that doesn't look like ceramic to me. May it's just the paint?

A toy pussycat from 70s British TV! He had an aesthetic revival in the noughties, lots if toys and stationary made with his image :)

Thanks. Sounds like the British Hello Kitty.

Would you believe. $63,082.95 worth of Bagpuss merchandise was sold on Ebay in the last year in the US and internationally.

Bagpuss is a cultural icon here. Not cutesie like Hello Kitty. The TV series was made by two wonderful animators called Postgate and Firmin. I've got Postgate's biography, he's a fascinating man. There's some quite serious hidden subtexts in his shows.

    This is lovely: http://www.smallfilms.co.uk/bagpuss/intro.htm

I had never heard of Bagpuss until this past week, in this thread.

Then, tonight, in one of the "new" episodes of The Crown, there was a despondent, soon-to-be married Diana, sitting in her room at the palace, with an episode of Bagpuss on the television!

I doubt I would have noticed if I hadn't read about Bagpuss here.
