Porcelain that is numbered only

    And sorry all, sure a real simple answer, but why are some pieces just numbered with no manufacturer stamp etc? Thanks again !!

    I doubt you will get the definitive answer to that. In my opinion, unless your brand was a big name "Spode" "Wedgwood" "Royal Worcester" there was little to gain from adding a further process to the manufacturing by stamping a piece. In mass production in a competitive business every second counts.

    This also applies to piece workers being paid by the item. If they save a few seconds they might improve their output.

    With early tea services for example only the major part of the set eg the teapot was marked again, presumably, to save time.

    I think John is right--the marking adds time==expense.

    Even the big boys often didn't mark. It really wasn't common till, oh, the late 19th.

    Found these two and they are the same design as yours but floral scene is different
