Featured Best place to advertise your antique/collectible auctions?

I am wondering where the best place is to advertise your auctions. It used to be there were some Yahoo groups where you could post your eBay auctions. Now they are no longer. Google groups mostly I think are not being used (they were/are the Usenet structure and unique groups).

On a similar note, I notced a "Spam Reported" as the last post of several threads. I guess that was the remnant of a spammer that was here?

 

We report spam when we see it, and post "Spam Reported" so others know it has already been reported. Some days it is pretty quiet, but other days there is someone who posts advertising in every current thread. Usually it is for supplements or escort girls.
There is a report button below each post, so you can report spam or inappropriate posts.

 

I believe most people are advertising their eBay listings on social media -- Snapchat, Facebook, Twitter, TikTok, stuff like that. Not to highjack your thread, but I have stopped selling anything of more than nominal value on eBay.

You may recall that when eBay started, just about half of the sellers were crooks. To its credit, eBay has over the years virtually eliminated fraudulent sellers. Conversely, it's the buyers you have to look out for. I read daily accounts of the various scams buyers pull on sellers -- and without fail, eBay takes the buyer's side.

This includes scams such as saying they received an empty box, asking for a return and returning something entirely different -- just to name two.

Well I did say "virtually"

But at least buyers are protected from fraudulent sellers. Sellers have no protection.

What nonsense!
Initially, eBay was terrific and pretty much all of sellers and buyers were tech-savvy (you kinda had to be as there was no photo hosting services yet thought of) and honest. The scammers came later when the floodgates opened and it became easy for non tech-savvy folks to enter the arena. I was there and lived it.

 

Do tell..... I have a recent buy where pics of item made it look much larger than actually was..... is this same or??

 

If the measurements are not in the description, ask for them.

 

I don't know....but what I do know is his NWC items are 98% carved in Indonesia.

And ebay is inundated with fake antiquities. I notice a lot coming out of Cyprus. 'Phoenician' glass with a level of kitsch the ancient Phoenicians never thought would ever be invented.
