Featured I swear I didn't mean to do it!

My ma had a wonderful charm bracelet, I can hear it now. Damn thing got stolen. I've built my own up over the years. I do like them.

 

Hm. There's definitely initials on the back of the cameo shell but I've also now noticed scratched marks on the frame, close to the hinge.

 

A bit below the hinge? I see some there that could be something.

 

@Ownedbybear, would you mind flipping the pin open on that cameo, and re-photographing it???? Maybe the initials or sig would show up better?? Thanks....

The scratch marks on the hinge say something like 47 E/W and a symbol in a square.

 

The horse is my favorite. Enamel and copper?

 

It is indeed enamel on copper and very nicely done. The ears have a couple of nibbles but it's in good nick.

 

More cameo images, but I really CANNOT get that scratched signature or whatever it is on the shell, damnit. A bit of light behind the carving....

Bronwen can't add much. Helmet shell, Italian, 19th century. The theme of Cupid being teased by holding something out of his reach is a recurring one on cameos. This one seems like it may be the cutter's own variation as the withheld item appears to be a rose when it is more often his own tools & the seated woman is robed. The most common version is Venus playing with her son but this lady is too covered up to be that goddess.



Is the red gunk hard? It looks like the stuff they called sulpher & used to make impressions of engraved gems for collectors.

It looks like it was initialed by the cutter. Sorry, can't decipher or recognize it.

 

Thank you! Yes, the red gunk is hard, almost like jewellers rouge gone solid, which is what I thought it might be. It's nicely carved, I coudn't persuade the camera to capture it.
