I watched this earlier today. I was surprised and a bit shocked by how aggressive he was with that brush. I do hope they post the completion of of the cleaning.

    Hi Mill Cove,
He is not any where near what they did to the Sistine Chapel. That was one hell of a restoration. From dark and brooding to BINGO!@@!!!!!!!

Greg, I know what you mean. I saw the Sistine before and after the restoration. They took it too far.

When I said aggressive, I meant the amount of pressure and how rough he was. Usually they use those q-tips to apply the stuff gently and then again to wipe it off.

I thought the same, I was so worried he was going to rip the canvas.

    Hi,
I know about the pressure. When I was doing the restoration on the paintings in Brooklyn I was told to use a stronger solution not a stronger pressure. While he had a really thick layer to remove, the ones I was doing, it only a heavy coat of smoke and incense not varnish.

I agree that the Sistine Chapel went too far. There is no shading, it's all blocky and flat. I'm sure they took some of the original paint off with the layers of grime.

Aquitaine Is What It IS! But NEVER BORED!

This guy is fascinating!!! Would love to see the finished product!!!! What do they use to remove the varnish and not hurt the paint?????
