Featured Quartz or Glass - Ring from Finds

Here is the ring from the post on “Finds”.

The little diamonds lit up with my gem tester, the 14k mark was easy enough to see. The others not so much.

The top is not particularly cold but definitely cooler at room temperature. It’s not as cold as a coral piece or glass. I placed it under the magnifier, what do you suppose it is? Also, is this inspired by Art Deco? What would you call this type of design?

 

What does your gem tester find on the main "stone"?

 

I don’t have a persidium one, mine only reads for diamonds.

Hopefully one day I buy one that can tell me more. I didn’t try it on the top.

Perhaps lucite? I'd think more like 1980s rather than Deco...

Was it common to mount lucite in gold settings? I don’t think I’ve ever owned any lucite... I know it’s not old enough to be actual Art Deco, I meant if it was inspired by? The few pieces I’ve seen up close and personal all seemed more geometric. It could very well be from the 80’s. I edited my original post for clarity on what I meant to ask.

 

I've seen lucite, transparent and opaque, in both gold and silver settings - to my eye looks like a kind of over-the-top '80s 'shrimp' ring...

I think that's a new-ish David Webb knock-off. His are done in rock crystal.

Not an expert, but could it be camphor glass?

 

The finish on the stone is poor and not fit to the ring shank,possibly something out of a sweatshop in Thailand.

 

I'd cheerfully wear that.

 

That’s really cool ring it does look like lucite to me but definitely get it tested
