Featured Thoughts on vintage Rolex?

I purchased an estate lot, and it is on the way. In the meantime, I am pondering if the Rolex included is real or a knock off. I can’t find any like it, and that can be good or bad. Of course, my intuition says it is a total fake, and I would love to hear your thoughts in the meantime!! Here is the best pic I have of it.

 

That appears to be a 1960s women's bracelet watch. The wide spread counterfeiting of luxury goods began in the 1980s. It should be real but impossible to tell from the one (poor quality) photograph.

Yes, it is cropped and the original was not great anyway. It is the best I have!! I am hoping it is real!! But not hoping too much, lol. Thanks for the info!

Your photo isn't well lit enough to make a judgement call. Here is one that's close, check if the face on yours is as "crisp" as this one, but please keep in mind, this example may be a fake-

 

Can you take it to a local jeweler who can look at it for you?

 

I will as soon as I receive it. I will make the call when I get it- a lot of times I can tell when they are in hand. I have gotten 3 or 4 over the years and it was obvious they were knockoffs once in hand.

According to the internet, ROLEX watches are either 14k or 18k but never gold-plated.

So close! Yes, I will be looking for the purity mark. I figure it is a fake as only a goober wouldn’t notice an 18/14k mark on a Rolex.

 

I'd be surprised if it were fake. But... on the hand... I'd be surprised to find such a thing in an estate lot.

The only thing that makes me think twice was that it was an extremely nice lot. So we shall see! I will keep y’all posted. I get it Monday.

 

Can’t tell from picture but it’s a no brainer once you get it. Either it’s solid gold or it isn’t and it must be solid gold. That watch was never faked in solid gold. (As opposed to other “status” jewelry like Cartier Love bracelets which are faked in solid gold). The second hand looks good in length.

 

I’ve got an excellent fake Rolex. Not that I am encouraging it and I didn’t buy it but it keeps excellent time an doesn’t look bad either!

 

IMO there is no such thing as an “excellent” fake. That is an oxymoron. No one can tell you what to wear but by wearing a fake you’re ripping off a company. I believe we should all wear and use what we can afford and all fakes should be destroyed. I realize that many will disagree with this but the counterfeit world is pretty frightening and we should all avoid contributing to it.

 

My meaning is that it is an excellent watch not an excellent fake. I should have worded that more clearly.
I am not ripping anyone off as I would never buy one anyway.

As I said I didn’t buy it or choose to have it .It just landed with me.

I’m not going to sell it on so it ends with me.

I have effectively taken it out of the market rather than contributing towards it.
