I previously found a teeny teeny bit of the ole breath at a booty years ago but this is bigger and nicer xx
It was described as Ruskin style and cost more than I usually pay ( over £5 :O ) but I wanted her to join Le Hoarditorium xxx

Yes, it is Ruskin style. Ruskin made the ceramic cabs you usually see on Ruskin pieces, but on this one you can see the crimping/folding of the metal on the back that is characteristic of most Ruskin pieces.
I like the ceramic Ruskin cabs, but this dragon's breath really takes your breath away.:)

The suede on the back was added later, probably to prevent the crimped edge of the metal from damaging your clothes. If you want you can remove it, it is not original imo.

Interesting to know about the suede, well all of it <3 thank you,My Miss AJ Dragon-Lady xxx

I have a Ruskin type box here, got a few Ruskin type things (but took me an embarrassingly long time to realise they weren't talking about John :O )

Hope it all goes well, literally every time I speak about an eBay win before it comes, I end up with an omelette on my visage!!

Thank you my lovely AJ xxx

Please don't be embarassed, you can't know everything, and questions are good.:)

Ruskin was an English pottery manufacturer. From ca 1900-1925 they made glazed ceramic cabochons, to be set in Art & Crafts style hand decorated base metal brooches. The metal of the front of the brooch was folded over a small metal plate to create the shape of the brooch.
Some Ruskin brooches are silver, but most are pewter or similar base metal, in keeping with the simplicity of the Art & Crafts movement ideals.

    Here are some Ruskin brooches:

It is dragon's breath glass, a type of art glass. Probably made in Bohemia/Czechoslovakia.

So Bou's brooch is slightly different from classic Ruskin brooches, but given the technique, most likely made by a maker who also made Ruskin brooches. Hence the term Ruskin style.:)
Many Ruskin brooches were made by the Campden School of Arts and Crafts in the Cotswolds, England.

It does! Looks squidgable . @TraceyB ... I don't know how well you can see in this pic ( though it's a very good pic, I think, it's hard to capture) Dragon's Breath has a sort of veil of colour which **dances** across the glass. It's divine. xxx
