Featured Mourning locket help!

It’s beautiful in a classy understated way. What a great find. Worn by someone who knew and liked quality but didn’t need to make an exhibition of it!

 

My first thought was that this was older than Deco, but then started second guessing myself. Just reminds me of a guilloche locket I sold a while back that was definitely older. The enamel Jesus picture insert is really unusual.

Certainly the one in the link is older. Maybe they kept making the style until the 30s?

Since you are keeping it, you can continue to do research. What a neat piece!

 

Religious jewelry definitely could have been made later in an earlier style. Lockets too. Art Deco didn't come in and wipe everything else out, at least not for a long time.

 

I would have put it in my collection too.

 

New info! Someone caught that the mark was not 14k, but 14 and a trident. Sloan and co. Any thoughts or opinions?

 

Company dates say 1895-1950, so the locket could be either Victorian, Edwardian or Art Deco. No closer to a consensus!

 

I will add: there is a scratched 7048 next to the purity / trident stamps. Not sure what that signifies.

 

It was a) repaired or b) on someone's insurance policy. It's usually one of the two.
