Featured unsual carved wax cats

    something else i found that was very cheap

    probably not worth much either, just found it a bit odd

    3 inches

    made of very soft wax

    wondering if its carved, and where/when it might have come from

    cant find any like it online

    dont know why but i thought chinese, probably very wrong

    any thoughts appreciated

    Those elongated shapes are very 1950s/1960s.

    I wonder if someone thought these were vintage bakelite? Looks like there were heated pin tests on bottom.

    Bet they did test. Description says "bakelite inspired.) Peltro means 'pewter' in Italian.

    Charlie, I believe what you have is the form to use for the wax casting of the pewter cats shown above. It was probably mold formed and not hand carved. It must be durable to have survived this long, but the type of wax used for this job of "lost wax" (cire' perdue) method doesn't melt as easily as candle wax. Someone who makes jewelry by hand may be interested to cast it.

    Wondered what they meant about that, presuming the etsy one is wax as well

    You're welcome, Charlie. I don't think this piece would need an extra "spru" attached to cast in metal, it appears the base is enough of a spru.
