Great find Debra. I couldn't find much of anything so that was my guess. Maybe we can name this other guy Christopher Columbus. Christopher did love his bow and arrow. I have a vivid imagination so don't mind me.

nobody cares about the Catalans anymore. some even call them a sect - and I do understand them after my last trip to Barcelona. do they really think tourists learn an absolute useless language only to visit la sagrada familia ? get a life.

who cares ? I don't want to be aggressed as tourist in the streets when asking for directions only because I use the few Spanish words I remember from university.
would be the same in Switzerland if all people refused to speak German, French, Italian, although they know it, and instead used Alemannic dialects or Patois or Lumbaart. good night tourism...

 

A large percentage of Catalans aren't even Catalan but the children of Andalusians who immigrated there in the Franco years.

You can tell that by surnames and often first names. It was forced immigration of course, Franco's cleansing. Now, the new Catalans are from all over: as Pujol, I think it was said, they count anyone who chooses to live and/or work there as Catalan, meaning they're welcomed.

I've never ever had a problem in Catalunya whatever language I'm mangling at the time.

 

It is a bit annoying when they choose to speak with one in English rather than Spanish.

I've always thought that's because they suspect their English is better than many a tourist's Spanish. Also, people like practicing English. Had that a lot in many countries.

 

No, they do it to native Spanish-speaking people too. It's annoying.
