Without ANY googling or expertise, my first impression is that it’s a nice amateur copy of an older work, possibly a deliberate study of fabric. The sleeve is very nice! Have you googled the image?

    Francenia Irwin?

The book is really strange. Looks like it has 2 spines instead of one and folds.

It does look like a student's work. And I see "Francenia Irwin" too.

Probably stating the obvious here, it is a reading monk.;)

Any reading monastic always brings to my mind a powerful 1930 statue by my favourite sculptor, Ernst Barlach: 'Lesender Klosterschüler', 'Reading monastic student'.

The statue featured in a German novel situated in WWII, about people who had to flee the Nazi regime for different reasons. The statue was one of the refugees, for two reasons:
    - Work by Barlach was seen as 'Degenerate Art', so forbidden.
    - The student is seen as being a critical reader, reading the text and forming his own opinion, which is not acceptable in a totalitarian state.
