This is from the 1970's?? Are you sure? I am going to have to rewrite my listing for it if so!
Would showing the back help tell it's age?

I would also like to know your reason for dating it as the 1970s. The church culture was not really strong in the USSR at that time.

This is a print/poster, not a wood icon. Look at the back, it is a cardboard. It could be printed in USA, or anywhere where printer was available. Any photo store could do it. This is just my opinion. If you think it is older please go for it.

I was talking about ROC in USA, it exists for a while. They could have print it. But I’ll argue no more :bucktooth:

I look at it this way, an icon is an icon, written one, or poster-print one. I never really thought of poster age effecting it’s value much, for me all posters are modern. As Christian orthodox myself i always think of image on the icon not the background that’s made of. I personally prefer written icons. Btw, I’m not sure if there even were color posters in 1918, but I do not wish to go there, I stick to my original thought of poster being from 70s. Usually one buys print in the church, frames it, brings back to church for blessing and then take it home. Your icon is beautiful, despite small damage. I’m sure there is a market for it. And there are many experts here that you can consult about it. I told you what was in my heart

Yes, they were. Lithographs. I have posted one example of a chromolithograph from the late 19th century at the beginning of the thread.
That doesn't mean that this print is that old, in my opinion, more information on this print is needed to tell its age.

I'll try to take a piece of the cardboard backing off to see if there's anything interesting behind it!

This print looking at the back appears to be from the 40s. I wouldn't date it any earlier. The cardboard back with nails you see it all the time with prints from that era.

Where did you purchase this icon, what city? There is St Michael the Archangel, Russian church in Philadelphia, it won’t hurt to email them. Also, one thing that I just noticed is that your icon doesn’t have a glass, does it? Prints usually have glass frame.
