Silver plate brass WMF cup goblet. Any ideas?

Brand new here, so please bear with me if I have posted in the wrong place or wrong format.

I was hoping some of you lovely knowledgeable people would help me identify this worn silver plate brass goblet.

I have found some info on the maker's mark - WMF.M - Wurttembergische Metallwarenfabrik. The last 'M' standing for Messing (brass)... I think. But I have been unable to find any similar style pieces in my basic web searches. I don't even know what style this would be considered...



Any and all help appreciated!

 

Welcome! Sorry to say that I do not see the WMFM mark you mention. Looks like there are only 3 letters and not 4. In addition I suspect that any silver plating it had in the beginning is gone. The I/O mark should indicate "normal thickness of plating" so I agree it's likely one of theirs, but a better focused picture of the mark might be in order?

Yes - you're definitely right about just about all the silver plating being gone. I wasn't sure there was enough silver left to be appropriate for this forum.

See below a clearer image of the mark - the first M and F are fused, which I believe from my limited research is not uncommon for WMF.

But definitely happy to be corrected on this!

 

Mark looks fine in close up. it's hammered if that helps as a keyword. Late 19th into early 20th in style.

It was made as a plated item, so you're fine.

 

zinc-plated brass tole, pre-hammered. late 1920s into 1930s earliest IMO.

 

acc. book with re-issue of the 1906 catalogue it comes nearest to a small prize cup. the stem in this form is not used on other items.

i/o is also used for gilding. WMF used many old models in slightly altered forms for decades.

I have no idea what I should do with it, the cup has no sentimental value to me, but I can't imagine it's worth anything in its current condition.

 

You never know, someone may like it enough to get it plated. There are even home plating kits.
Or they like it as is. It is nice, even unplated.

 

there are collectors that look out for rare models as speciman copies; no big deal but I'd list it for 5 $ and see what happens.
