The thrift store I bought the previous brooches at had another one out today.

Should I 20171021_152113.jpg get these appraised?

I've had pretty good luck with this thrift shop :) It's one of my favorite places to go. It's a non-profit run by volunteers, so they're pretty generous with their pricing

    Lovey piece.
Prices for Victorian garnets on ebay are ranging from $30 - $400. Without many sales.
I think if I had this in my retail store(Northern Calif.) I would be in the $165 - 185. range. Probably would take a while to sell.
In a large city, you might be able to ask more.
Selling online through ebay doesn't look like they bring much.

    Thank you.
The variance in price really surprises me. I've always assumed that garnets are valuable, and I would think that these would bring in a good amount of money, especially since they're antique.

The vast majority of garnets have been crushed for sandpaper and abrasives.

Garnets were a color gem, not a high value gem.
The value if any is the Victorian age and setting.
Some garnets are set in gold, but most are set in rolled gold or brass.

I'm not sure if the safety clasp is original to the piece; there's a little silver solder visible and the other brooch I bought from this shop a week ago (probably in the same lot) had a C-clasp and tube hinge.
