Hallmarked silver but not very clear

    Anyone have a clue what this mark might be? The item is 6" diameter not sure what it would be used for. Thanks! hallmark1.jpg hallmark.jpg

    There's a good chance this is French in origin and silver plated. The 6G stands with the amount of silver used in plating and the maker's mark, although worn was clearly in a square or rectangle and not the diamond cartouche required under French rules.

    We're seen this shape before, but darned if I can remember whether we ended up with tastevin or cigar ashtray.
