What is This Brass Oval Thing?

    This measures 4" x 6" and does have some weight to it. What is it for? Did it just sit on a table?

    I can't see your 2nd picture all that clearly, but I'm thinking Naughty Nelley......card holder? ashtray?

    Will be curious to see the opinions of others.
