hi all was wondering if someone might be able to tell me about this book. Pretty bad condition but i thought the subject matter was collectible in any case. I'm not finding any of these early editions.
The ones i am finding have no pics and are dating it as 1879. but this has the 1881 date on the front page so i'm a little confused about the dates.

916bulldogs, what exactly do you consider "bad condition" for an 1881 printing of a hardcover book?

Do you live in the USA?

There are (approximately) thirty (30) schools of veterinary medicine in the USA.

I think I would be contacting (by letter or by telephone) some of the veterinary schools near you to see if the school would like to purchase the book outright or if a professor would like to purchase it.

You might even include a "descriptive flyer (with photos)" with the letter and ask if the flyer could please be posted on the bulletin board at the Veterinary School.;)

    HI -
There's a vet school at UCDavis - so odds are there is a local market.
Do you only sell on line or do you have a space?

Figtree3 What would you do if you weren't afraid?

You might have a later printing, which could explain the difference in dates. The copyright page says 1879 (copyright date) and the title page says 1881 (probable publication date). They are often two different dates, as they mean two different things. There could also have been one printed in 1879, which would make yours a later printing.

In the ones you see listed online, since they have no pictures it's hard to say whether they are choosing to list the copyright date as the date of publication, or whether there really was a printing done in 1879. Some research would probably clarify.

Looks like there were many editions and/or printings of this.
