They didn't care. The husband was selling silver Mercury dimes, silver quarters, and silver Liberty dollars, and he was spot on with his pricing. They said they just wanted to get rid of things, the jewelry was from a relative. I love the necklace too much to sell it and I wear it. I also love the Native American turquoise pieces and will wear them.

That dollar table .... they'd have had me camped out in front of it! (LOL)

The piece in Hebrew almost has to be some sort of house blessing. My Hebrew is pretty well nonexistent, except some verbal religious bits, but those things are usually a prayer of protection, blessing or something similar.

For her price is far above rubies; The heart of her husband doth safely trust in her, and he hath no lack of gain; She doeth him good and not evil all the days of her life; On top, I have set a Ruby.

Proverbs something or other. (even I'm not that good) Solomon's description of a good woman. Crafty, wise, good business sense, knows how to work. This was probably a gift for such a woman.

There's an expression in Judaism used for it and I have entirely forgotten the term. I ought to know, it's on a friend's gravestone.

Park Central Hotel - a bit of the past (March 1947). A R. Wallace Silver Soldered Plate to hold something that weighed 16 OZ. I know not what. It is 6 1/2 inches in diameter.

I would not count on the 3-47 standing for a date. More likely a design number - 3 for the pattern or range and 47 for the number of the specific item.

I thought the design number was 0376 under the R. Wallace. I don't know though.

And you could be right, Kiko. (First cup of coffee. ;)) I've just never seen such a specific date permanently impressed on hotelware.

I was looking at a date on a pocket watch movement earlier but I still can't figure it out. There are two dates, 24 April and 06 June 2690... I don't understand it, this old watch must have been made in the future :meh: I don't know why things have to be so complicated, just put a year on the watch.

I was excited to acquire this piece of the past no matter what the date. It just seemed so explicit as a date. Whatever the date it was old enough for them to get rid of. My luck.

It's almost certainly the matching underplate to something with a 16 oz. liquid capacity, if intended for use with other than liquid the measurement would be in inches - underplates were typically used for pieces holding liquids that made messy spills, like syrup, cream, gravy, or soup and since it's a fairly substantial capacity, would guess this is the underplate to an individual soup tureen. The '3-47' could be another factory code, but suppose it's possible that it is the date of manufacture - not typical of Wallace, though International did use use a year code on their restaurant/hotelware for many years...

Seconded - made to hold a bowl of Something.

I went to my local ReStore and found nothing but tantalization. They had all sorts of goodies in a back area, but since it wasn't out on the floor all I could do was look. No touch.

I found this, it works and I've got 600 Volts from it on the multi meter just by turning the gear. Its missing the crank handle and has a small piece of broken wood which I will glue back into place.

I'm not sure what these are called or what they were used for but I'd love to know plus I need to hunt down a crank for it so I will need to know what these are called in order to find the part I need.

It wouldn't be telephone related but I know what you mean. Even if you were to try power an old G.P.O telephone bell set from this it would be to easy to over drive the bell set with to much power. A bell set takes about 75volts at 25Hz AC This thing can produce very high voltages.

It could be one of those things that were used for electric shock therapy or an old science piece of equipment.
