I have done well a handful of times with gold jewelry on eBay. Sellers that just happen to be selling a piece rather than those who know what they are doing. Sometimes people don’t have a gram scale and they just make up a price. So if you’re good at eyeballing weight based on photos and willing to gamble you can do well. I’ve done the same with silver flat and holloware in online actions and done very well.

It's hard to believe that thing in the first picture is the same as what you actually received! In the seller's picture, the top half of the salt cellar almost looks like it could be an irridescent glass, not silver. Wow.

It's beautiful. Gotta love those blurry photos - more bargains for buyers!

I bought some vases on ebay that had the wrong info a while back. They were listed as candlesticks, I have no idea how they thought that at all. I always do a huge search now for possible wrongly listed items because I am finding some newbie sellers are in such a rush to list, they don't do research and so their listings get lost.

    Nice score @kyratango !!!! Good eye !!

I've found some gems....with bad pics and crappy descriptions......but it's hard to actually search for those.....they just seem to pop up from time to time..

BINGO! Nice score! I keep my eyes out for bad picture auctions. They don't crop up that often, but every once in a while....

Makes me feel better that it happens to you experienced pickers too! Usually when I go back to the photos the signs are there but I regard it as a learning experience and only bid as much as I can lose or the amount I can move it on to someone else for!

When you can't see the marks and it's in a dark jumble, even the best of us get fooled sometimes.

I messaged a seller on ebay today as I wanted to know more about condition. Pictures were terrific, but details were missing as to details.
I have some saucers that I need cups for so... I thought maybe these would be what I needed.

So the seller responded quickly 2X in fact. First he said they looked brand new unused but one had a chip. Then he wrote back and said the other one also had a chip.
Glad I asked, because they would have been worthless to me.
    Oh well.

I got excited a bit today to see some glass and pottery at the local Ill Will. One piece from Lithuania looked great until I saw the back - bit fat crack. You can't turn a piece around in photos.
