Bought this ravishing unmarked small thing on EBay France, described only as "boite en corne" aka horn box! No mention of repoussé silver nor stone, nor the pierced lid...
I hoped to get it for 50€ till the last minute... Happily I sniped high, because I wanted it badly:sorry:... Ended at 200€
:punch::rage: other hunters who stumble on bad descriptions;)
Found the exact same, 5cm too, for sale currently for........... 950£:muted::wideyed::rolleyes:

Beautiful. I've heard stones in pieces like that referred to as cairn gorms. Is it hallmarked?

My heart missed a beat there, gorgeous! And a bargain.
Not all Scottish provincial silver is marked.

Cairngorm is the name for several stones found in the Cairngorms, a mountain range in Scotland. Cairngorms are mostly smokey quartz or citrine.

No mark at all... I suppose it is a cairngorm as, with the thistles, Scottish origin is sure:joyful:

Yes it is definitely a cairngorm, and a traditional Scottish horn item, although these are usually snuff mulls, as komo said.

Thank you!!! I have (somewhere...:bucktooth::facepalm:) a similar snuff mull!:)

Thank you all for thinking I did well at 200€, I never bought a vinaigrette, and really hoped to get it for 50€:hilarious:

For the kyratisation, it needed to get rid of all the dried polish residues, and the ring had been crushed flat:nailbiting:
