Hello, I am wondering how to tell if this is a Bel Geddes tall boy. It is metal and rusted but the top does not feel like metal. No markings or stickers on it. Dear LORD...that took me along time, but I got it!!! Thank you for help.
I see the pics fine. Looks like a Simmons chest and one that is often attributed to Geddes. However, my research has indicated that not all Simmons' lines were Geddes designed. They continued to produce modern lines after his association with the company. Would have to put yours into that category of unknown. It is possible that this is part of his design group but not one I could say is his definitively so. Here is an example of a chest that was definitely designed by Geddes. I think you can see the difference.
These are steel so refinished much like you would repair an auto body. Sand and prime before painting. Optionally, take down to the steel and clear coat. That seems to be a preferred look by many for these.
