Oh my goodness, I think you left the phrase "great find" in the dust when you found that book with so many of its ownership documents/documentation.;)

If you had said "superlative find" I wouldn't think you were bragging at all, merely stating a "fact." ;)

Link below is to the Merriam-Webster on-line dictionary definition of "superlative."

Now isn't that interesting? Suspect book plate has more value than book itself.

Note that in one of the pictures is the stamp of the St Mary's Seminary Library, which certainly would use the Dewey system.

Fascinating that this book moved around so much.

Any thoughts on why the rich have "penetrating genuis" while the rest of us are lucky to be recognized for our "smarts"? (At least we're not morons.)

The collection grew to approximately 7,000 books and 1,300 manuscripts.

Part of the library was donated to St. John's seminary, Camarillo, Calif., other part to St. Mary's of the barrens, Perryville, Missouri. Both were sold at Christie's .

By the way....when I was little, I think I first started walking to the library on my own...in a VERY busy city...when I was 8ish.
I loved looking through the hundreds of Dewey card file drawers for I discovered many books in there that I may not have otherwise. :)

Unfortunately I've never stumbled over one of those cabinets cheap. :(

IMO, the two most "happy" places are schools and libraries. Oops... Make that three. Forgot Bergdorf's.
