I have had this print for about 15 years. I got it in a silent charity auction and know nothing about it. If anyone can help I would really appreciate it.

Who is the artist? When was it made?

I am including closeups of the three marks, can anyone tell me what each means?

    Thanks so much :)

Hi and thank you for the information, the paper it is printed on is 9-3/4" x 14-5/8". The image itself, not counting the writing on the left, measures 8-3/4" x 13-1/4".

There is a folder made of reddish brown paper taped to the back of the frame and this is a sticker on the folder. Sorry, I should have included this photo in my original post!

I THINK the size matches the original printing - but I really couldn't say if it was from the original edition of prints - most likely it is not - there may be other clues in the marks/lettering on the print that I have no idea how to understand :) It's a beautiful print!

Thank you for all the information :)

I was considering donating it to an auction to benefit our Antique Dealers Association. We hold an auction to help fund a scholarship fund and a cultural enrichment fund. I wanted to check if it is something special before donating it.

Looking at the links to the same print I am seeing differences...
    - My balloon is orange red, the others are brown
    - The border on the far left on mine is gray blue, on the others green
    - Mine and the ukiyo-e.org link have little curves cut into the 4 corners, the hiroshima.org link has straight 45 degree angle corners
    - On the balloon, the panel to the left of the red area with writing has a green background with tan shapes, the other two have a tan background with green shapes

I know colors can look different depending on how the shot is taken and variations in the print from age and wear. I also know the colors could change each time the piece is printed. But the corners make me wonder.

I did some googling and found a site I can email photos to, hopefully they can tell me if it may worth pursuing. I will let you know what they say.

Good eye on noticing the color differences. I'm interested to know what you find out! Good luck!

Also I just noticed that the ukiyo link:

    https://ukiyo-e.org/image/loc/02031v

has "similar prints" listed at the bottom of the page - you may be able to find one that matches the colors /page corners on yours.

OK, we already have an answer...
This print is a modern replica made by Wanatabe Shozaburo in the 1930s.

There we go, it's a nice print and not too new so to the charity auction it goes :)

Thank you aaroncab for your help. Without the information you gave me I would never have found the site to send for information!
