Guess I just wanted confirmation that this ashtray is silverplate. It is marked NIL Argentina (I think). It is worn off, so must be silverplate over what--does that look like brass under it, or copper? Wonder what the NIL means (could not find it on Google)? Any help to further my education is appreciated! :cat:

It looks like well-worn silverplated brass. Could the NIL be a maker's name?

Ruth, correct? Not sure, cannot find the maker NIL anywhere on Google. Thanks for helping me.

No idea. Not all of the small factories, especially outside of the US and Europe, are findable. It could be an abbreviation for something else, in which case we're out of luck.

I tried searching the forums on 925-1000 for any hints and got nothing.
