this baseball came from an old house and it appears real, but at an authority on sports items. offer?

 

Unless you have some provenance with the baseball you would be hard pressed know if it is real or not since the name is in print and not a signature. It could be a simple as a ball that he hit and someone put the name and date on there as a remembrance.

 

Looks like felt tip pen which wasn't invented until the 1960s.
