I was never "in" the WTC, but I watched the progress of its construction, now & again.

During the summers of 1968, 1969 & 1970, my mother took my sisters & me on three 5-day "walking tours" of NYC. As I recall, we spent a fair amount of time watching both towers being built.

Mom had close relatives in the city & had lived there herself for about a year after college. She took us into the city (from CT) a LOT when we were growing up, but at some point, she decided that we needed to see "the real NYC" - not just the museums/stores/cultural events that we normally frequented.

(I appreciate those "walking tours" a lot more now than I did as a young teen!)

I was born across the river in Jersey City and spent a lot of time over there with my Grandma.
Went up on the Empire State Building countless times and having suddenly passed at only 56 in '63 she never saw the WTC. :(
I saw them being built but we left in '69.

The other image from today's haul. Ordinarily I don't buy dinnerware, but someone made a mistake on that dish and serving spoon. Over a pound of silver's worth of mistake. The bracelets in the baggie need to be tested for bakelite, and the rest are bits and bobs. The ring was a freebie from a sale on the way home. Judith Jack sterling. It was NFS earlier in the day. Hi,
I had a friend from a small town in North Carolina who came to NY and got a job as a waiter in the WTC. When he was telling his dad that from the Windows on the World you could see airplanes below you. His father had a hard time with that since the tallest building he had ever seen was a six storey one. Luckily he left NY long before the destruction.

You could literally press up against the glass and see the sidewalk!
We saw helos and planes below as well!
I'll have to ask my sons what they recall of that visit.

I recall watching the Verrazano Narrows bridge built too.
I've always wanted to cross it.
    Maybe next time. :)
I have $17 on my EZ Pass now.

Shoot, King - mine requires a $25 minimum! Any time I go below that, they hit my bank account for more $$$!

Really? It think mine will load 25 at 5 or 10.
It could be based on use.
I only use mine once or twice a year.
They do take my monthly payment out too.
There is some senior discount plan I keep forgetting to set up as well. ;)

Given the number of children born to their marriage, I think Prince Albert had more going for him than being just another handsome face on a tobacco tin. ;)
