Found this unmounted oil painting on canvas at a local antique shop and it was too pretty to pass up. Was wondering if anyone knew around when this was painted? Looks like a reproduction of Madame de Pompadour.
I wonder if it might be one of the products of europic-art.com, managed by Jack Lee. https://europic-art.com/ It is a Chinese company that makes hand painted copies.
Thank you for your response Debora! Do you know if there is a way to tell how old this reproduction is?
There is no way of telling but likely fairly if not brand new. (The back appears to have been artificially aged.) And very likely came from company linked above. Debora
I agree, this is lovely!! A factory painting but beautifully executed. It would be a little pricey to get it back to hanging quality but restoration is 100% possible, and the rule with art is ALWAYS if you think it’s beautiful than it’s a wise investment. Can’t lose on something that feeds your soul!
As someone with some Asian ancestry I appreciate them making her look Eurasian, but it is not historically correct.
The Jack Lee link posted by 2manybooks includes a catalog with prices. Reproductions of Madame de Pompadour start at $60 and go to $400 not including international shipping. Yours has been roughly treated. (Could well have been rolled up in a suitcase.) Debora
