Thanks for all the useful suggestions on what type of gun this is! To clear up confusion it is my dad's pistol and I am helping him restore it (he owns it legally).

    Thank you again

I'm pretty sure that if he was a crazed maniac he would not be restoring a 100 year old gun that has no available ammo in production to commit a heinous crime with.

I am a great grandson of an American revolutionary war veteran. My great x4 grandfather fought in the American revolution at the age of 14 along side his father who was 38. So please tell me... at what age does the second amendment kick in? At what ages do ANY amendments kick in? So what about the 13th amendment?? Are blacks only free after 18? Or maybe 21?? The problem you are seeing with crime and kids killing each other will continue as long as hate is preached in the schools and on the news. Criminal DO NOT OBEY LAWS which is why they are called criminals. Wake up and then just maybe you can see clearly enough to do something to help.

Stan, a 14 year old, came here asking about restoring an old pistol that "he has". Later it came out that his father legally owns the gun & they are restoring it together.

I never accused him of wanting to commit a crime with it. What I said was: "Restored or not, in the hands of a 14 year old showing it off to his buddies in certain cities will get him shot by the police."

The possession of firearms does not afford the same constitutional protection to juveniles as it does to adults. Federal law requires a person to be 18 years of age. Many states also have age restrictions. Wisconsin ownership is 18.

I am WIDE AWAKE on gun ownership issues and understand the reasons to keep handguns out of the hands of children.

Keith, I'm really not sure why you brought up race/slavery except to 'stir the pot'.

In case you hadn't noticed: the USA no longer allows 14 year olds to go to war, so your relative fighting in the American Revolution is a moot point.

"shall not be infringed" is pretty unequivocal and absolute.

The Federal government and state and local governments have no right to impose any laws on weapons. We have had criminal government for many decades now.

Terry, you make it sound like you think I'm 'for' taking our guns away. NOTHING, absolutely nothing, could be further from the truth! :banghead::banghead::banghead: I guess you missed my discussion months ago with komokwa about my views in the USA/his views being a Canadian. My point, on this thread, is they shouldn't be in the hands of children.

I understood the Constitution was a living breathing thing...that's why you can make amendments to it.

When it was written, if you could fire three shots a minute from your flintlock rifle, you were above average ...
They had no concept of what a bumpstock was........

Starting down a very slippery slope when you start making exceptions for what firearms you can't owe today. . .then comes tomorrow and a precedent has already been set.

Not so much ...'what'.....more like...What they can do !!

That's my favorite Bad Boy.......& I'd luv to own one......but no one should be allowed to have one in it's original ' automatic ' version...

Well, that Bad Boy would seriously dump me on my butt and I'm probably not even strong enough to pick it up much less shoot it. 16 gauge shotgun is the 'biggest' I'll shoot these days and I'm personally terrified of handling a handgun (I have my reasons), BUT if I wanted to own one I see no reason why I couldn't - law abiding citizen that I am.

well....even with the 2nd.....I'm just not too comfy with regular folks....having fully automatic weapons...........
maybe it's the Canadian in me !! :playful::playful::playful::wideyed:

Don't know why 'regular folks' would want one, although I'm pretty sure DH & DS would like to shoot one. At least I know we're too poor to own one so I don't have to see it in the gun cabinet. ;)

Surprisingly though, a muzzle loaded cannon is perfectly legal to have, and not regulated under the firearms act.

I wouldn't be thrilled with the thought of civilians having fully automatic arms with attached grenade launcher, but something to consider is that when the 2nd amendment was created, citizens could and often did have the most technologically advanced rifles available (as good as the military). And that held true for a long time.

Speaking as someone who has one ancestor who was shipped to Massachusetts as a prisoner from the Scottish wars in 1650, others who fought in the American Revolution, more who fought on both sides of the Civil War, and for the US in WWII - I would just like this gun fetishism to stop.
