Any help please identifying porcelain figurine maker or origin

Hi.

I'm hoping someone out there may be able to help me in my quest to identify this figure. Even if it's just a guess at it's region of origin or what the figure could possibly have been holding. As it looks to me as if he was surely supposed to be holding something; from the hole he makes in his left arm and the way his head is tilted back I have been presuming that he was playing a violin but perhaps someone else has another idea.



The figurine is unmarked and approx 6" tall. There is a harlequin type pattern on his belly but he doesn't exactly fit the description of a typical jester or clown but I guess he probably is meant to be one. There are also no characters either in the comidie dell'arte that I have seen similar to him.

He appears to be glazed bisque.
I suspect Germany as the place of origin.
Pre WWI
Only my guess.
Wait for other opinions.

 

I agree with cluttered regarding date. Is there a possibility it has some relation to Punch and Judy?

Part of his dress is Harlequin, so not Punch, but maybe referencing a commedia dell'arte character, or jester or fool. I agre with Cluttered on date and likely country of origin.

I guess 19th Century German is the most likely bet. That seems to be a consensus which is good.

I'll update you if I find out anything else but I think it's unlikely that I will identify the maker but you never know
