Wooden face mask bangle African?

I’m normally way out when assigning a country but I’ll put my neck on the block!
Is this likely African?
It doesn’t feel like it has age to it so maybe a modern tourist bangle but it feels carefully made, nicely polished and has a lovely feel to it. Some marks on the inside but suspect they are natural although could be scratched letters.
Not my usual thing but I picked it up as worthy of interest!
Any ideas if the type of wood or if it’s attributable to a specific area?

I was thinking Mexico; it's made like an old school black coral bracelet, but without the coral. The mask looks like a lot of Mexican tourist pieces. But it could be from anywhere really.
