I may have to! But the episode just popped up on Youtube; I'm watching it!

I got woken up at 6:15 by the friggin' MS again. That was after not being allowed to go to sleep until after 2am, dagnabbit. Got out there and found one sale with zip. One I bought hair doodads for Operation Christmas Child for a buck. The third took one look at the sprinkle of rain we had overnight and postponed until I'm in church tomorrow. The fourth on a "whole street" (as if) sale ... paydirt. A signed paperweight, a few bits of Czech brass and glass, a few other bits ... and a cherry amber or cherry amber bakelite set of worry beads. I need to test them, but I'm seeing vegetable matter. Spent $17 or so outside and $15 in the grocery on the way home. The coffee I'd used to get going needed to go.(LOL)

The amber isn't; it's plastic.(sigh) Looks good up close until the baking soda rub comes off the bead dyed red. One of the most totally appropriate finds ever: a US military issue prayer book for New Years and Yom Kippur. Today is Yom Kippur on this side of the Date Line. For Aussies it was yesterday.

IMG_7484.JPG IMG_7488.JPG IMG_7485.JPG IMG_7487.JPG IMG_7491.JPG I saw this two weekends ago and it gnawed at me and they still had it.
I first thought it may have been a car show trophy but there's no evidence that it ever had an award plate.
I've not cleaned it yet nor opened it to see about making it work.
It may be Walnut but not sure.

It's a Lanshire clock made in Chicago possibly mid '50s though the car is '30s and the wheels are basically independent not that later crappy one piece mold that trophies' have.

I looked a bit and they made some really cool clocks!!!! Wow!
I didn't find this one though.

    Hi,
Great trophy!!!! If the clock is not running it probably has dried oil clogging the gears. I would open it and douse with silicone spray until it drips. Wait a while and it will start. The old electric clocks I used to spray and then turn upside down and plug them in after a few minutes run them upside down for a few hours. The noise seems to stop and they start running again. At least once a year I turn my old electric ones upside down for a few hours. I know AF is going to bust a gut but cheaper than going to the clock Dr.:rolleyes::rolleyes:

    GREAT idea!!! :)
I'm going to clean it then get a black fabric wrapped cord with copper-ish thread in it. :)

Same is to be done with any neon 'window' type signs that have anything other than clear red true neon in them.
Most all other colors have a drop of mercury in them, which vaporizes, and it will settle eventually and part of the neon unit(s) won't work properly.
Have to be careful and patient and turn in all directions while off. :)

Most of my finds from this weekend (and one earlier piece from a Goodwill auction that I forgot to introduce to you all)

First my auction win - pretty much a life-sized (about 11"/28cm long) ceramic chicken by Sutherland and Sons in Stoke on Trent, England (1862 - 1875). I believe it originally would have had a caddy and six egg cups inside ... but I've only seen one or two that still have theirs. Pretty dirty still - haven't attempted to wash up her white feathers.

On Friday, we went back to the thrift to see if they had put out some other pieces of the Steuben that we found earlier (surely the family that had the wine glasses would have had water goblets ... right?) Didn't see any more of that pattern, but did find a Orrefors skinny vase, some Waterford pilsners, a Baccarat vase, and a cute millefiore bowl of unknown origin with a bunch of little glass 'candies'. Today's find is the small agate/onyx bowl that will soon have a thread all of its own. I'm really trying to not buy any more glass ... but seriously ... how could I not??? (they were all very reasonable - I think under $25 for all shown below)

Also found some jewelry ... some at the thrift with the glass - 18K orchid pin, Courtney Designs sea turtle, and a cameo necklace marked 835 (?). Also found some, surprisingly, at the Salvation Army (where I rarely visit because they never ever have any decent jewelry) ... but this trip, the girl was putting out new jewelry and she handed me the box that she was pulling from and said "here, you can look through this" :jawdrop:. Well ... OK ... if you insist ;) Found the knotted amethyst beads w/ 14K clasp, the double strand of onyx and 14K beads also with 14K clasp, pearl and 14K bracelet that needs to be restrung, ivory half-hoops (for me!), and a police badge(?) ... all at $2ea. The sterling necklace with polished stone charms was another GW find.

    Very nice finds everyone.

Well I learned something new here again today.
We don't have junk jars here, well, at least I have never come into contact with any.

    Joe2007 Collector

Was at an estate auction on Saturday and picked up a few items. There was a good sized crowd of around a hundred and the prices seemed to be fairly strong. I wonder if the antiques market is finally picking up some steam. In the last several weeks I've seen more of the same at local auctions, strong prices for quality items and some of the dealers I know purchasing quite a bit due to replenish depleted inventories.

May have overpaid slightly but really wanted this piece for my collection. It is double-sided. metal sign.jpg Maybe I'm not putting the correct search terms into Google but I can't seem to find other examples like it.

Also couldn't pass up the jug (below) for $7.50

I'd have jumped on those too. The last few days have pretty much been a bust. Spent $2.50 total on nothing worth showing. This weekend however is a bi-annual rummage I always hit. Something may pop up then.
