Featured Very Old Brass + Wood Telescope (Dixey of London)

    Bought this as a treat for myself at my local antiques shop. If my collecting antique optics for years has taught me anything, I believe this to be a very old telescope, probably 1830s or 1840s.

    It's made by the firm C.W. Dixey of London. Here's their website:

    It measures 7.5in. closed, and extends to 16.5in. open.

    I managed to get a pretty decent discount on it. And it's not the most expensive one I've bought.

    Given the telescope a bit of a clean and polish to restore it to proper functionality, along with blowing out all the dust and cleaning the lenses as best as possible.

    At least it's a bit more presentable now, and I can slide it open and shut without fear of ripping it in half accidentally...

    The maker's name is also nice and clear on the draw-tube! :)

    It's my second telescope with maker's details on it, my first telescope which is two-draw, and my second guillotine telescope. I think it's super cool! Optics ain't bad, either!
