Recently picked up this drawing on ebay. Attributed to Joseph Milner but not entirely sure about the attribution since the signature looks more like G. Milner. More interested in where the location might be. Any ideas?

Found where it went unsold at a previous auction on live auctioneers:

14 Purley Avenue, Cricklewood, London. In the days of the horse-drawn cart it seems! Lovely drawing.
EDIT: The bridge is not there, but may be nearby?
EDIT 2: It’s really big. A viaduct, perhaps?

I believe @Ownedbybear may know this, especially if its a viaduct.

    PS
In Cricklewood there is a secret passage that allows you to go back in time.:hilarious:

It looks like a J to me. Milner just didn't close up the bottom.

It's Docklands from those cranes and the ship moored. I'm thinking Poplar, somewhere like that. Railway viaduct, not a river bridge, I agree. Let me brood.

Figtree3 What would you do if you weren't afraid?

I'm not sure that the address on the back is intended to refer to the location of the picture. It might be the address of the artist?

There are figures on the viaduct which would lead one to believe it was accessible to pedestrians.

Hmm! All RA exhibition catalogues are online and easily googled. If he’s an actual RA artist (as they still tend to be, despite the open admissions policy) that’s going to add value!

EDIT: He definitely liked these arches! 634F3602-8EAD-400D-B8B0-27FA146DF3D9.jpeg

I think those are crane tops not figures on the viaduct - and in any event, many had foot access. Horse drawn carts went on post WW2.

Yup, it would be his address. The houses there were built in the 1920s, following the Northern line out. Not quite Metroland, but same principal.

That station approach one looks like maybe Blackfriars or the old Euston.

I cannot open the link on my cell.
It gives the address on the back of painting, but Mary Milner.
    So, I don’t know. 8E38D7BD-2EFD-420F-AA3E-C956D5E6CEB8.jpeg
