    OY!

Who was it on this forum who said they HATED polishing silver?

Booooy you wait til you see this.

This disgusting monstrosity was my win at the auction-house this week, and holy mother...I mean DISGUSTING. You could hardly touch it without your hands turning black!

It's 12 inches tall, with Birmingham hallmarks...and...uh...well...believe it or not, this thing is solid silver...

    GORGEOUS isn't she!?

This is the result after 45 minutes' nonstop scrubbing with silver-foam, copious amounts of water, and a sponge:

The hallmarks, which I had to find by touch and feel, before polishing, because they were so black, you couldn't read them!

Very NICE Shangas!!!! And that would have been MEEEE who hated/s polishing silver even tho I still love some pieces!!!! My Mom had waaay too much/many silver tea/coffee services that she collected and wanted them ALL POLISHED!!!! Thankfully, after I got married, DH LOVED polishing (at least for a while!!)....until he too got worn down!!!:D:D:D:D:D

    Hi,
I do not understand why people do not like to polish silver. I love to spend hours making silver look like silver. The biggest piece of silver I polished was a trophy that was 30" high and 38" wide. It took 2 days to turn it from black to gleaming. It was for winning a 300 mile car race. It was awarded in 1919. A wonderful piece of Gorham silver at its best. Shame it was just boxed up and stored for 50+ years. The strangest thing I polished was 9 sterling silver tracheostomy tubes and fittings.

Well, I am not sure if I mentioned that I hate polishing silver, BUT I do.
I have my grandmother's candlesticks etc here and am sorry to say the last thing I want to do is clean and polish them.

But kudos to you for finding such a nice piece!
