    Greetings All,

I need some help identifying an old "Ombre" colored bed set. A friend is downsizing her home and looking to sell this set, but I've never seen anything like it.

She inherited it and has looked for markings on it but hasn't found anything.

There is a headboard, a dresser with mirror, and a chest of drawers. They have not been refinished recently to look like this. The stain looks original to the pieces.

Has anyone seen anything like it before or have any insight into the pieces. Thank you!

A style popular in the later 1940s and early 1950s - usually made of laminated wood. Other than that, I can't help. Any manufacturer's marks on the backs or in the drawers?

Looks in good condition. I'm a furniture dummy but the metal handles, their placement, etc., probably puts these items in the "mid-century modern" category which I think is still "hot" in the market. They sure get my attention and interest, and I usually don't give a rat about furniture posted here. If they turn out to be by certain makers/designers, they could be worth a whole bunch, so investigate thoroughly before selling. The furniture folks here will comment within about 12 hrs. I'm sure.

I have not looked personally, but the owner said she and a friend could not find any marks or identifers. I've worked in consignment shops and haunted antique fairs and I have not seen a set quite like this.

When I first looked at the top photo, I thought someone wearing denim shorts was stuck under the right side of the piece.

Mid century modern for sure. I am leaning more to 50s-60s than the 40s. Nicer design than you see on much of this "pickled" finish stuff (also sometimes called "limed") and the shading more dramatic than usually seen. Couldn't tell you who made it but doubt by a known designer. Look in the inside of the drawers (usually on left side) or the back for a maker's mark.

For comparison here is a more run-of-the mill Basset chest with the pickled finish and shading.
