IMG_1221(1).JPG Hello, thank you for reading this. I am new to the forum and have a couple of items I would like to get some info on. The first is this item which I believe is an Alfred Sutter tensile strength tester. I have no idea what it is worth or who would be interested in purchasing it. I thought it might make for a nice piece in a tailors shop. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks!

I'd probably like to ask what the heck you do with it, but there are those here who would have a field day with a question like that!!!!:D:hilarious:

Perhaps it is for testing the strength in springs. Watch springs, for example, are listed with a tensile strength.

I am not positive that is what this item actually is for but I know springs are rated for tensile strength.

Upon closer study I would think this is for rating the strength of cloth perhaps?

Thank you for the comments everyone. I believe it is used to test the strength of yarn or thread. I had someone offer me $100 for it but I am more around $300. Do you think that is fair or should I shoot for more? It is very very heavy and would be hard to ship so I'd like to sell it locally if possible.

from the condition and how pretty it looks.....i would balk at a C note.....double that and i'd consider it....
yes...a local pick up sale would be preferable.....unless you're in the desert !!

You could have the buyer arrange shipping and have it picked up or take it to a shipper.
I used RONTRA long ago in San Diego for art or signs I packed/crated but some I had them pick up and do and never had an issue either way.
Maybe they are there near you.

Great! I'll take that into consideration. Any suggestions on where or how to sell it? I'm thinking about going around to all the antique shops in the area, but it is time consuming. Dare I auction it om eBay?

I don't know but I'd say look for auctions on similar machinery first.
Also check with museums of such things.
You need to know a rough value before eBidet.
If you can't find anything at all out mark it 4-5 times what you paid if that will make you happy. :)
If it gets attention for and beyond then you're good.
BUT you need to be sure you know what to call it so you don't miss the right people.
